Trade Card, The Lecture Platform with Mark Twain

$300.00

Description

Card titled The Lecture Platform, published by the American Literary Bureau, Agency For Lecturers, Readers & Singers, Cooper Institute, N. Y. Lists 45 names including Mark Twain. There are small pictures of each of the 45 people on the front. Not certain, but probably dates to the 1880’s, maybe earlier. I found an article on-line concerning J. S. Vale, manager of the American Literary Bureau, dated December 12, 1880.

There was a Lyceum Bureau in Boston in the 1870’s run by James Redpath for whom Twain and several of the others on this card performed.

Very good overall condition. Measures about 2 3/8″ x 3 15/16″.
