Age of picture is unsure. Weinstock, Lubin & Co. was incorporated in 1888 in Sacramento, CA. The price on the picture is 48 cents, which is low, but hard to associate with a particular year. The quote seems to be a restatement of a quote from Following the Equator, Pudd’nhead Wilson’s New Calendar, which was published in 1897. The original quote was “Truth is the most valuable thing we have. Let us economize it.” The fact that the date of Twain’s death is blank leaves room to argue that it was before that date, but that is not conclusive.
The picture is in very good condition. The image of Twain is not printed within the surrounding matting on which the quote is printed, but is a separate piece that has been adhered to the mat.
